Summer Dresses on the Runway!

Fashionbeans Spring/Summer Dress Guide - Part 2

The Dresses

From left to right we have romantic styles as featured at Givenchy, Sports Luxe as seen at Alexander Wang, Sheer panelling like at Fendi, Ruffles pushed by Lanvin and the maxi dress as seen at Etro. All of these images came from the SS10 runways so with the major designers behind each style, you know the high street will be pushing them forward as well.

We are going to give you the run down on each style of dress and then show you some picks from the new season for all budgets.

Romantic

Romantisism was in full flow at the Givenchy show with beautiful elegant dresses featuring heavy pleating and ruffle detailling. The romantic trend is always high on drama and volume so think layers and shapes like Edwardian times. The key detailling to look out for are bows, rosettes, ruffles and pleating, whilst elegant fabrics such as silk and lace ooze romance and Parisian chic. You do not need to go overboard with this trend because less is definitely more, so try and have only 2 high romance pieces per ensemble.

Sports Luxe

Sports luxe was a strong trend last year with DKNY pushing it really hard throughout the Sprin/Summer period. This year another big name has thrown their name behind the trend in the form of Alexander Wang. Sports luxe keeps the dresses light and comfortable with a casual/relaxed vibe which is perfect for hot summer days. You can stay cool whilst looking chic by picking up dresses in jersey material and pairing them with other sports luxe accessories such as long socks and pumps. However for an interesting take on the trend why not really dress it up with high heeled shoes or sandals.

Sheer Panelling

The sheer trend was big all the way through the Autumn and Winter seasons but it is not going anywhere anytime soon. Fendi and a whole host of designers were still using the sheer panelling effect through their Spring/Summer previews and we know why… it is super sexy without being “slutty”. The sheer effect is perfect for those big nights out you have coming up in the summer, whilst also being chic enough for daytime events and formal occasions. If you pick a traditional little black dress version you are sure to look your absolute best this year and turn heads. Pair with simple statement heels and clutch for an effortless on trend outfit.

Ruffles

As we mentioned in the romantic style section, ruffles are going to again be big within dress detailling this Spring/Summer. They are essential for a whole host of different trends such as Grecian and Romantic styles, whist there is something ever so girly about ruffles on a party dress. Ruffles can come in a variety of forms but our favourties this season have to be in pastel shades (big trend colour) which give off a really cute and girly vibe. We are also massive fans of the asymmetric dress cut this year so look to combine this type of dress with ruffles for an outfit which will make you stand out in the crowd. Ruffles are also perfect for hiding parts of your body you may be conscious about, so look for styles that ruffle around the waist, hips and bust if you are curvy.

Maxi

I Think Maxi dresses are amazing. I mean they are just effortless and so versatile. Dress them up with heals and accessories or just throw it on over a bikini. Take a look of some of these awesome dresses below.
